BIS Standards Clubs are initiatives by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India, to cultivate quality consciousness among young mindsThese clubs are established in schools and educational institutions to raise awareness about standards, quality, and safety. 
Key Features of BIS Standards Clubs:

  • Objective:
    To sensitize young people about the importance of standards in improving quality of life. 
  • Activities:
    The clubs conduct various student-centric activities, including workshops, seminars, and competitions on standards. 
  • Benefits:
    They provide opportunities for learning about standardization and quality, and also include industrial visits and practical understanding. 
  • Involvement:
    The clubs can be formed in various educational institutions, including high schools, engineering colleges, and other professional institutions. 
  • Facilitation:
    Consumer Organizations/Non-Government Organizations/Voluntary Organizations (COs/NGOs/VOs) registered on the Consumer Engagement Portal of BIS can also facilitate the formation and functioning of these clubs. 
  • Mentorship:
    Mentors are crucial for organizing regular meetings and imparting knowledge about standardization and quality to the students. 
  • Training:
    BIS organizes training programs for mentors to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively run the clubs. 
  • Recognition:
    BIS provides financial incentives for clubs that successfully conduct activities.

NSS Activities

   The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth of 11th & 12th Class of schools at +2 Board level and student youth of Technical Institution, Graduate & Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various Government led community service activities & programmes. The primary objective of developing the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service. ‘Education through Service’ is the purpose of the NSS. NSS was launched in 1969 in 37 Universities involving about 40,000 volunteers which has now spread over 657 Universities and 51 +2 Councils/Directorates, covering 20,669 Colleges/ Technical Institutions and 11,988 Senior Secondary School. Since inception , over 7.4 crore students have benefitted from NSS.
